Middies Soccer Loses in First Round to Danvers, 4 - 0

DANVERS, MA. - In the State Girls Soccer Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Deering Stadium in Danvers, the Dracut Girls Soccer team was defeated by the No. 3 ranked Danvers High by the score of 4-0.

With the victory by Danvers (18-0-1), the Falcons advance to the Quarterfinals to face Central Catholic on Monday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. With Saturday's loss, the Middies fall to 8-6-5 overall on the season.

At the 20:23 mark of the first half, Danvers All-American forward Lindsey Williamson blast a shot from in close pass Dracut keeper Anthony to give the Falcons an early 1-0 advantage.

Danvers was able to score again 10 minutes later. Danvers out-shot Dracut 12-1 in the first half of play.

"Overall it was a good season, we accomplished some of our team goals, said head coach Wayne Currie." Danvers pretty much control most of the game and we could get into any type of flow offensively."

Danvers increased its pressure on the Middies defense and broke the game open at the 50:34 mark when Senior Stephanie Anastopoulos scored her first goal of the game. She later scored her second goal at 68:02 to give Danvers a commanding 4 - 0 lead.

Both Middies keeper Micheala Anthony and Jen Cole made 8 saves each.

Playing well for the Middies were Seniors Jen Fontaine, Amanda Stafford, Kacie McGlasson, Sarah Dahlinger, Kelly Nicolls, and Viviana Martell.
