Dracut Girls Soccer Blanks Haverhill 6 - 0

HAVERHILL, MA. - The Dracut Girls Soccer team exploded for five goals in the second half en route to a 6 - 0 victory over Haverhill on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Middies improve to 4 - 0 and for the Hilliers, the loss was their fifth of the season and dropped them to 1 - 5.

Senior Jen Fontaine started the scoring for Dracut with a goal less than 2 minutes into the game. Fontaine then scored again 10 mintues later to have the goal called back for offside. The Middies were unable to penetrate the Hillers net after that and had to settle for a 1 - 0 half lead.

"It was just one of those first half things," Dracut Head Coach Wayne Currie said. "We just need to do a better job putting chances away. We have to be more efficient. We'll just keep plugging away at it."

Fontaine had her second of three goals 10 minutes into the second half assisted by Kacie McGlasson. Senior Sarah Dahlinger scored less than one minute later with an assist for McGlasson.

McGlasson then scored her first goal of the season at the 28 minute mark off an assist from Fontaine giving the Middies a 4 - 0 lead early in the second half.

Fontaine scored her hat trick at the 31 minute mark with an assist from freshman Kaley Moore.

Sophomore Nichole Masse completed the scoring with 7 minutes remaining assisted by freshman Catherine Nickerson.

Playing well for the Middies were Lauren O'Donnell, Susan Kelly, Amanda Stafford, Rachel Isabelle, and Kelly Nicolls.

Sophomore Keeper Michaela Anthony and Freshman Keeper Jennifer Cole combined for the Middies second shutout of the season.

The Middies will return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Hamilton-Wenham for a non-league game. Competition is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the High School.
