Middies Goes Undefeated in Reading's Jamboree

September 1, 2001

READING, MA. - The Dracut High School Girls Soccer team participated in the Reading Soccer Jamboree on Saturday. With a 4-2 victory over Watertown in the late game, the Dractut Girls Soccer team completed its preseason scheduled with a record of 4 - 0 - 1 as the Middies outscored their opponents by a 11-5 margin.

Pacing the Middies offensive attack were senior captain Jen Fontiane (6 goals), senior Sarah Dahlingher (3 goals) and sophomore Susan Kelly (5 assist).

In the first game against Cambridge, Dracut came back from a 0 - 1 deficit and scored two unanswered goals to take a 2 - 1 victory. In the Middies second game of the day Dracut took a 1 - 0 lead against Medford. Medford scored the equalizer to tie the score at 1 - 1 but Dracut then answered with a goal of their own to break the deadlock and win 2 - 1.

Sophomore forward Nichole Masse and freshman Kaley Moore also found the net for Dracut.

"We had a slow start in the morning and then picked it up later on" said Head Coach Wayne Currie. "What was impressive to see was the pressure that the foward put on the other team. All of the forwards played well and scored. Both Medford and Cambrige are Division I schools with quality program so it was great to see how we responsed against them."

The Middies open the regular season Thursday, September 6 as they host Lowell High at 3:30 p.m..
