Fontaine and Moore Scored Two Goals Apiece as The Middies Open Season With a Win

DRACUT, MA. - Senior Forward Jennifer Fontaine and Freshman Forward Kaley Moore both scored two goals each to lead the Middies to a season opening 5 - 1 victory against Lowell.

Fontaine attack early scoring her first goal at the 25 minute mark of the first half. The goal was assisted by sophomore Susan Kelly. Dracut kept most of the play in Lowell's half of the field but was only able to score one goal heading into the second half.

"This team really wants to do well and you can see that they were trying too hard in the first half. This was their first game of the season and is always a little nerve-racking, so we got that out of the way in the first half," head coach Wayne Currie said."

Susan Kelly opened the scoring 11 mins into the second half on a beautiful shot from about 25 yards out which surprized the Lowell keeper. Fontaine then added her second goal 5 minutes later. Freshman Kaley Moore took advantage of a loose ball infront of the net to give the Middies a 4 - 1 lead. This was Moore's first high school goal.

Lowell got on the board late in the first half to prevent a shutout. Moore scored again with 10 mintues to played to seal the victroy for Dracut. Moore's goal was assisted by senior Viviana Martell.

The Middies outshot Lowell 23 - 7, and outcornered them 5 - 2. Sophomore Keeper Michaela Anthony played for 3/4 of the game and made 3 saves. Freshman Jennifer Cole substituted for Anthony and made 3 saves and allowed one goal.

The Middies will return to action Tuesday night at Chelmsford. The varsity will play at 7:00 p.m and the JVs willplay at 5:30 p.m.
