Dahlingher's Goal Leads Dracut Past Methuen, 3-2

September 26, 2001

DRACUT, MA. - Senior forward Sarah Dahlingher scored the game winner with less than three minutes to play as the Middies girl's soccer team defeated MVC foe Methuen 3-2 Wednesday night.

Dracut jump to an early 1 - 0 lead when Forward Jen Fontaine scored as she knocked in a loose ball in a scramble in the box in the 12th minute.

The teams played scoreless for the next 52 minutes.

Methuen tied the game on a corner kick as Caitlin Burke beat Middies keeper Micheala Anthony with 19 minutes remaining.

The stage was then set for Dahlingher's game winning goal. Fontaine found Dahlingher down the right wing, she out ran the Rangers defenders to the end line were she made a great move to keep the ball in bounds, dribbled toward the Rangers net and beat the Methuen keeper Shannon Augeri from in close.

"Methuen is a well coached team. They were determined to win the game in the second half, if not for Dahlinhger effort. She was determined to be an hero and that says a lot about her character," said head coach Wayne Currie.

Sophomore Keeper Michaela Anthony and Freshman Keeper Jennifer Cole shared time in net.

Playing well for the Middies were Laruen O'Donnell, Nichole Masse, Kelly Nicolls, Rachel Isabelle, Kacie McGlasson, and Amanda Stafford.

The Middies will return to action Thursday night when they visit league leading Central Catholic. The game will be played at Strawberry Fields in Groveland. The game will begins at 3:30 p.m.
