Middies Record Second Straight Tie

October 20, 2001

METHUEN, MA. - The Dracut Girls Soccer Team record its second straight tie as they battle rival Methuen to a 1 - 1 draw.

The teams played to a scoreless first half. Play was back and forth with neither team taking control of the game. Dracut had the best opportunity when Sarah Dahlingher's break away shot just miss the side of the net late in the first half.

Dracut scored the first goal of the game when Dahlingher found Sophomore Nichole Masse with a pass. Masse fired a shot under Methuen keeper Shannon Augeri to give Dracut a 1 - 0 lead with 8 minutes remaining in the game.

Methuen tied the game on a kick which hit the inside of the post and found it's way into the net. Freshman Caitlin Burke beat Middies keeper Micheala Anthony for the second time in as many games to tie the games in injury time.

"This was an ugly game to coach and watch", said head coach Wayne Currie. The good thing about it was that we were able to bring up three JV players for the game so that they could get some experience. I think that they all learn alot about playing at the varsity level."

Sophomore Keeper Michaela Anthony made nine saves on the day.

Playing well for the Middies were Laruen O'Donnell, Sue Kelly, Amanda Stafford, Tina Boyd, Tracy Conway and Viviana Martell.

Up next for the Middies is a match against Tewksbury at home. The game will begins at 3:30 p.m.
