Middies Down Lancers 6 - 0

September 13, 2001

TYNSBOROUGH, MA. - Senior Forward Jennifer Fontaine had two goals and an assist and Senior sweeper Kelly Nicolls had two goals has the Dracut Girls Soccer Team storm into Tynsboro to claim a 6 - 0 win over Notre Dame of Tynsboro.

Fontaine who recorded her sixth double for her career, put the Middies on the scoreboard early in the first half with an unassisted goal at 8:28.

Freshman Kaley Moore found Freshman Catherine Nickerson alone in front of the net and Nickerson gave the Middies a 2 - 0 with four minutes to play til half time.

Kelly Nicolls scored her first goal two minutes before half time when she dribbled the length of the field and put a wicked shot pass the Lancers' keeper Erica Newcomer giving the Middies a 3 - 0 half time lead.

"That was huge," said Head Coach Wayne Currie of Dracut's two goals to close the first half. "It put a damper on Notre Dame's spirit, and it boosted our confidence." We did very well at the beginning, and then we let our guard down. In the second half we stepped it up. We need to eliminate those down times and keep our foot on the gas pedal."

Dracut took control of the second half when Fontaine found Nicolls streaking down the left wing. Nicolls put the ball pass the keeper with 29:45 remaining in the half. Senior forward Sarah Dahlinger took a long pass from sophomore Susan Kelly and buried the shot to give the Middies a 5 -0 lead.

Fontaine then finish what she started when she beat two defenders and the keeper to seal the deal with 16:00 minutes remaining in the game and Dracut ahead 6 - 0.

The Middies outshot the Lancers 23 - 5, and outcornered them 5 - 0.

Sophomore Keeper Michaela Anthony played for 3/4 of the game and made 3 saves. Freshman Jennifer Cole substituted for Anthony and made 2 saves for the combined shutout.

The Middies will return to action Tuesday when they travel to Tewksbury. Competition is set to begin at 3:30 p.m..
