Middies Battles Tewksbury to a 1 - 1 Tie

October 25, 2001

DRACUT, MA. - The Dracut's girls soccer team closed out the home portion of its conference schedule on Thursday with a 1-1 tie with Tewksbury before 61 fans.

The Middies (8-5-4 overall and 6-4-2 MVC) jumped out in front in the game's 17th minute when sophomore midfielder Tracy Conway converted a cross from senior Sarah Dahlinger that drifted over the head of Tewksbury keeper Kristen Boyle, giving the Middies a 1-0 lead.

With the wind at their back, Dracut kept the ball in Tewksbury's half for much of the first half, but was unable to take advantage of several opportunities.

Tewksbury (8-4-4, 7-3-2 MVC) equalized three minute into the second half when sophomore Krystal Spencer headed a shot pass the outreach arms of Dracut's keeper Michaela Anthony.

Much like the Middies, Tewksbury was unable to take advantage of the wind again despite generating several prime scoring opportunities. In the half, the Middies had four corner kicks and a several close range chances that narrowly missed in the latter stages of the half.

The draw marked the third consecutive time this season that Dracut have finished in a deadlock.

"I was please to see that we played the way that we have practice the last couple of days. We need to do a better a job of finishing our crosses. The weak side forwards and midfield needs to be more aggressive in the box, said head Coach Wayne Currie."

The Middies outshot the Indians 15 - 10, and outcornered them 4 - 2.

Playing well for the Middies were Kacie McGlasson, Rachel Isabelle, Lauren O'Donnell, Amanda Stafford, Sue Kelly, and Kelly Nicolls.

Sophomore Keeper Michaela Anthony made 10 saves in net.

The Middies will conclude the remainder of their schedule in non-league action Saturday when they travel to Newburyport. Competition is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Middle School.
