TEAM RULES & POLICY

PLAYER SELECTION

The Varsity Girls Soccer team is chosen by taken the top eighteen girls who display the following skills and ability:
    Technical Skill
    Tactical Skill
    Aggressiveness
    Work Ethic
    Attitude
    Speed of Play & Thought
    Field Awareness
    Stamina & Endurance
The selection process is base on the opinion of the coaches and are based on hours of observation during practices and scrimmages.

ATTENDANCE
Practice is from:
3:00 - 4:40 p.m. Monday thru Friday
8:00 - 9:30 a.m. Saturdays
(If you are going to have a problem with practice please make time to see the coach to discuss this at least 24 hours in advance) Practice begins at 3:00 p.m. NOT 3:05, 3:10, or 3:15 p.m. This means we begin our warm up at 3:00 p.m. not putting on our cleats at 3:00 p.m. The same applies for 8:00 a.m. practice.

If you are going to be late for a practice please let one of the captains know.

ABSENT
Any player who is absent from school is not allowed to participate in practice or game on the day that they are absent. If you are absent on a Friday you can not play or practice on Saturday. If you arrived late for school or leave early for personal reasons you will not play in the first half of the game on that day.

The above doesn’t apply to seniors who are on college visit.

PRACTICE
The best way to improve as a player is to always practice HARD. You will play the way you practice. If the coach feels that you are not practicing to the best of your ability or feels that you are not taking practice seriously enough, he will ask you to leave and return when you are serious about playing and practice. Remember this is at the coach's discretion and can result in less playing time.

When we go from one activity to another---Jog over to that activity. Do not walk. Walking is a sign of laziness.

GAMES
Everyone on the team will play. It is my belief that you can not improve as a player unless you are faced with game conditions dilemmas. It is at the coach's discretion as to how much you will play if you play. I will do my best to inform you of changes in your playing time. Starters play more than non-starters.

Players who are not in the game are expected to know what is happening on the field during the games. You are expected to cheer on your teammates and pay attention to what the other team is trying to do. Players on the sideline can see situations on the field that the players on the field do not see. It is up to you to let them know what you see. When you get into the game you will be better prepared to combat these situations.

UNIFORMS
Each player on the team is issued a team uniform consisting of shorts, sock, and two jerseys. You are responsible for any school issued uniform. If lost or not returned you will be responsible for paying for it. At the end of the season you are to returned the shorts and jersey to your coach. If you do not you will not be able to tryout or play for another team sport. It is your responsibility to make arrangement to return the equipment if you cannot return them on the predetermined date established by the team.

INJURED PLAYERS
If you are injured you are still a part of the team. You are expected to attend all practices and games. Although you can not perform on the field your presence, assistance, and cheering on the sideline is vital to the success of the team.

TEE-SHIRTS
It is recommended that players wear white or light tee shirts to practice. No player should wear any tee shirt that promotes tobacco; alcohol or that could be deemed offensive to someone else. If you have to question whether a tee shirt is appropriate or not do wear it.

ACADEMICS
The girls soccer team is very proud of the fact the we have consistently placed girls in the top five of each class every year. This is a testament to the dedication that the team has made toward academics. The focus of the team in on academic first and then sports. Each player is expected to attend all classes and maintain good a conduct in the classroom. If a player need help it is encouraged that the player stays late or make an appointment with a teacher to receive extra work. Players who display poor academics will see a reduction in their playing time.

Player who are in or take special education classes will not be compared to other players who are in the mainstream. The team understands that players learn differently and through different means thus players will be judged on an individual basis.

LETTERS & AWARDS
To receive a varsity letter a player must play in 50% of the varsity games. The girls’ soccer team gives out five awards annually at the All Sports Award Banquet.
Most Valuable Offensive Player
Most Valuable Defensive Player
Most Improved Player
The Coaches Award
The Spirit Award

The MVOP, MVDP, & MIP awards are voted by the players. All other Award is voted by the coaches.

CAPTAIN SELECTION
At the end of the current season the Varsity Girls Soccer Team appoints three girls (Seniors) to be named captain for the following season. Seniors must have played on varsity for more than two years. If the team does not have enough qualified seniors then juniors will be considered. A captain does not necessary have to be a starter but it wouldn’t hurt. The number three is use because of the amount of players on the team, in case a captain is injured and is use in the team decision making process. A captain is someone who displays good leadership quality and shows a commitment to the program. The players choose the Varsity Girls Soccer team captains. If the coach feels that the player’s decision was base on popularity rather than on leadership qualities, the coach reserves the right to name the captains.

Team Discipline Procedure:
Any violation of the above Rules and Policies will result in the following:
First offense: Verbally warning and discussion with the coach
Second offense: Less playing time
Third offense: No playing time for the next games
Fourth offense: The team will discuss and decide on expulsion from the team.
